As a form to give back to students and increase awareness and engagement toward seed saving, sustainability, food justice, food production, composting, etc… PICA has begun collaborating with Demeter Seed Library to bring together quarterly raffles!
To begin our raffle planning we decided that we wanted to begin with an Herb Raffle! Through careful planning and discussion, DSL and PICA came together and created packages filled with art, hand painted and hand made pouches with herbs, friendship bracelets, as well as zines made by us!
Here is an image of the DSL and PICA leadership team during our zoom meeting :-)
As mentioned, our focus or this raffle was herbs, the two herbs we chose were Skullcap and Marshmallow Root. We created zines with information for these two herbs, including the herbs history, medicinal properties, recipes, growing needs, and fun characteristics.
If you are interested in learning more about these herbs and printing a copy of the zines, we have provided them below for you to access!

Our Seed Librarian, Sam from DSL and our Compost Coordinator, Claire from PICA gathered all the information we had researched from the herbs and hand drew/wrote these beautiful zines!

Comment below answering the following question: How has herbal medicine impacted you in your life?
We were excited to have many comments responding to our question including:
My grandma made me many herbal medicines. Instead of using over the counter medicine she used natural herbs from her backyard to ease headaches, stomach aches, or any kind of soreness. It reminds me that there are more organic and natural remedies other than modernized medicine. @monica.menor
herbal medicine gives me the ability to heal myself and my loved ones without having to rely on a terrible healthcare system. after watching my grandpa tend to his medicinal plants, i was inspired to grow my own in my backyard. i love nurturing the plants, watching them grow, and eventually using the herbs to heal myself and my loved ones! @worm.333
Herbal medicine has provided me with a way to treat my body with the respect I give to nature that surrounds me. I am able to honor the natural energy within myself and connect with the Earth through healing with the help of its gifts. @sobido
